The college years are a time when students are focused on making the most out of their education and learning the skills necessary to gain traction in their careers. But at the end of the day, some stress relief is desperately needed. Whether it's a trip out with friends to a local pub for some brews, a great dinner accompanied by live music, or having some laughs at a comedy show, college students need ways to unwind from their heavy workload. Students attending NC State are in luck, because the beautiful city of Raleigh provides a dynamic nightlife with something to enjoy for people from all walks of life. The nightlife near North Carolina State University provides opportunities to unwind, make new friends, and create college memories that will last a lifetime.

Enjoy Authentic Local Beers

College students and beer are frequently found in tandem, so it's no surprise that a favorite activity for many NC State students is a visit to Raleigh Brewing Company. There, a charming tap room operates until midnight on weekends and provides a gathering place for students, their friends and other locals to enjoy the artisan offerings on tap. The company prides itself on their five core beers, offering brews to please every palate. The Blatherskite Scottish Ale is a particular favorite, with a rich, buttery, and sweet palate without the sharp taste of hops. Of course, hops are beloved by many, so RBC also makes the House of Clay Rye IPA, which has a full and lightly spicy spectrum of tastes. Tours of the brewery are open to the public at 3 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of every month.

Hookah and Coffee: A Relaxing Afternoon Treat

Even those who don't smoke have been known to enjoy the occasional trip to a hookah lounge, where flavored shisha and delicious coffee and tea drinks create a calming atmosphere to unwind from a rough week of classes. Shahrazad Hookah and Coffee, located on scenic Hillsborough St. near the Meredith College campus, offers over 25 different flavors of shisha as well as Turkish and Arabic specialty food and beverages. A unique experience many students love is enjoying a hookah smoked out of a piece of fresh fruit, which imparts a fresh and delicious aroma to the experience. Menu prices are generally less than $10 and shisha is around $15, making the lounge an affordable choice. With hours from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., Shahrazad is an ideal spot for students to meet up and enjoy baklava and other treats over some delicious shisha.

Laughter, The Perfect Cure For Stress

Enjoying comedy has long been a way for people to unwind and have a lighthearted chuckle at human foibles and day to day life. At Goodnights Comedy Club, students can enjoy comedy shows from both local amateurs and hilarious stars. The club nets some excellent shows, with comedians like Craig Robinson, Jamie Kennedy, and Jim Breuer having taken the stage. Upcoming events are added regularly, and comedy enthusiasts can check the club's website to make note of coming attractions. The club also hosts the North Carolina's Funniest talent show as well as an open mic night, perfect for NC State students who think they might have the chops for stand-up comedy. Late shows on the third floor offer a 4 pack of tickets for only $24, an affordable night out for a group of friends. A menu of appetizers, sandwiches, and desserts helps to round out the experience and gives locals a great opportunity for dinner and a show.

A day or night spent on the town with friends can create great memories, exciting experiences, and new favorite venues that will be visited again and again.
